A E S T H E T I C A L L Y Vaporising Content! – BCM112

Vaporwave and A E S T H E T I C are somewhat of a remix of old and new to create something completely different and spark a contrasting kind of representation that wouldn’t have been apparent when the individual elements of the visual and sound effects were originally created. It relates back to the medium being the message quite well as it provides a somewhat easily digestible representation of what the theory is all about.

As I spoke about in my previous blog post, depending on the medium you use to express a message, it changes the meaning of said message considering the mediums importance. Vaporwave and A E S T H E T I C recycle older music and imagery to create a whole new and unique experience for the consumer. It also gives a hint at the updates in our medium technologies and how quickly they are evolving to provide new consumption and interpretation options.

I wonder what kind of content McLuhan would make if he was here to access the internet and photoshop… Simpsonwave perhaps?

Oh yeah, that does make sense and I did not really think about the topic in this light. Remix culture serves as the medium which grounds this aesthetic in modern minds as a meme. We like it because the original bits were relevant in retro times, and we have the tools to make it an accessible message again. It feels unique and new, despite it being paradoxically quite dated. Its memetic like the glitch aesthetic that I discussed in my post because it has a powerful relatability that people can keep imitating in different and creative ways. Thanks Bree! You actually helped my open my mind about this one.
