Old School Runescape: A Rediscovered Passion – BCM206 Pitch

For my DA this semester, I wanted to reflect upon a game franchise that has helped me to escape reality in these uncertain times, Runescape. More specifically, Old School Runescape in which is a better representation of the game I played as a kid.

I initially considered creating a gaming channel dedicated to my rediscovery, simply to make gameplay videos and perhaps walkthroughs. However, after doing some research into the current state of the OSRS community as noted
within my pitch video, I exposed a better DA option.

Considering the franchise has a 20-year history, there is a lot of lore and culture to now unpack whether it be regarding the game itself or the community surrounding it. This can be extremely daunting to a new or previous player wanting to connect with the current fandom. Therefore, I considered the option of documenting certain highlights of community knowledge that may not only entertain current players but entice new or previous players to interact.

I also took a poll on twitter to gauge what a general public would want from a DA revolving around OSRS, and it seems to concur that people would be interested in seeing more informative, researched content regarding the history and fandom rather than just generic game play.

I would assume this is not only due to the reasons stated prior but also because of the accessibility of the game today, being available on both PC and mobile, OSRS can be played for free by anyone with an internet connection. Creating content that can add to the individual gaming experience by adding context to the gameplay itself seems more desirable to the community.

I already have a number of topics I’ve researched that I’m hoping to experiment with in the coming week, meaning I’m hoping to be able to release my first video this week on the topic of the Gnome Child Meme.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then you’ll have to wait for the video.

But until then, stay tuned!
